Asus G74SX vs G73SW Gaming Laptop – Nvidia GeForce 560M GTX’s 128-bit

Recently, I have a lot of customers calling me and asking me one question: “Is Nvidia GeForce 560M GTX GPU using 128 bit?”
I do not know where this question is coming from. Some of my customers told me that they found in some notebook forums. The message was comparing Asus G74SX gaming laptop’s 560M GTX has 128 bits and Asus G74SW gaming laptop’s 460M GTX has 192 bits. I do not know the purpose of the comparison, but I would like to warn our readers, there are many things to compare when we talk about GPU performance.
Let us compare those two GPU’s specifications:
Asus G74SX-A1, Nvidia GeForce 560M GTX, CUDA Cores: 192, Processor Clock (MHz): 1550, Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec): 24.8, Memory Clock (MHz): 1250, Memory Interface: GDDR5, Memory Interface Width: Up to 192-bit, Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec): Up to 60, External Memory Size: 3GB.
Asus G73SW-A1, Nvidia GeForce 460M GTX, CUDA Cores: 192, Processor Clock (MHz): 1350, Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec): 16.1, Memory Clock (MHz): 1250, Memory Interface: GDDR%, Memory Interface Width: 192-bit, Memory Bandwidth (GB/sect): 60, External Memory Size: 1.5GB.
Now, we can see all the numbers. If we compare the GPU (Processor) Clock Speed: 1550/1350, G74SX-A1 is about 14.8% faster. If we compare the Texture Fill Rate: 24.8/16.1, G74SX-A1 gaming laptop is about 35% faster. If we compare the External Memory Size: 3GB/1.5GB, G74SX-A1 gaming laptop is 100% more.
Is the 128-bit memory width matter at all? Yes, if we have the same GPU clock speed, texture fill rate and memory size. Will it be matter when G74SX-A1 already finishes the 10th frame, while G73SW-A1 is still working on the 8th frame? I think the answer is No. What is the big deal for G73SW-A1 can store faster in data (192-bit vs. 128-bit) while it can’t process the data at all and has smaller size in data storage?
Asus G74SX-A1 gaming laptop has faster CPU, faster GPU and more RAM memory. So I am not surprise to see the 3D Mark Vantage score: G74SX-A1 (9,088) vs. G73SW-A1 (7,635)—a 19% better in performance.
As a conclusion, Asus G74SX series gaming laptops are better than G73SW series gaming laptops in graphic.
